Dog foods - dry

 

What are we realistically looking for in an ‘ideal’ dried food?

  • A high percentage of meat,
  • Minimal amounts of carbohydrate (dogs and cats don’t need carbohydrate, but the ‘kibbling’ process requires some to be used).
  • Amounts of all of the major ingredients used should be stated, allowing the potential purchaser to evaluate the food.
  • No ‘Animal & meat Derivatives’ and ‘by-products’ or 'meat and bone meal'
  • No Soya protein

 

 

Our main source of information here is the independent site www.dogfoodanalysis.com. The site is American, and whilst most foods are now global in distribution, some such as Skinners are not, and are therefore not listed. 
The ingredients are in order of the quantity in which they go INTO the mix - that is not the same as in the final food!

The approximate Carbohydrate content can be worked out by adding protein, fat/oil, ash, and water, and subtracting this figure from 100.
