Our
meatymix is made especially for us by a local farmer/butcher/wholesaler,
using meat trimmings and cheaper cuts of quality, human grade meats –
all sourced from their own farm, and handled as if for human
consumption.
It
includes approx 80% meat, 10% bone, and around 5% each of heart and
liver, in an attempt to provide a ‘raw meaty bone’ diet without the
inconvenience of the whole bones/carcases.
You
will find that some butchers sell ‘dog meat’ – probably cheaper
than our product. However, this is usually what is left over, of dubious
age, and in whatever proportions are left over – and hence it will be
a very variable product from day to day (and more likely to cause tummy
upsets)
Our
meatymix should be introduced slowly, e.g. for a cat, give a teaspoonful
on day one, double this day two, 3 tsps day 3 (swap for tablespoonsful
for middling sized dogs). Watch for any problems, in particular loose
motions, or constipation. In case of constipation, add a little fresh or
frozen pure meat to the mix. In case of loose motions, reduce the amount
fed for a few days, subsequently increasing the amount more slowly.
This
food should ideally be fed raw, not cooked. If your pet does not like
raw meat, try lightly cooking it initially, cooking it for less time
each day, until it is not cooked at all.
This
is a natural product, and batches may vary slightly, though the basic
ingredient list will be the same. If possible, make the transition from
one batch to another gradually
over 2 or 3 days to reduce any risk of minor tummy upsets.
We
recommend giving a small amount of Salmon Oil with this food to add
extra Omega 3 fatty acids.
This
food is formulated to provide appropriate nutrition for our carnivorous
dogs and cats. In theory, it should provide all they need. However, we
recommend some variety, which will also minimise any risk of deficiency.
You may add in quality dry food (Orijen), or other meats (fresh, quality
pouches, raw meat on the bone). Dogs have no need for cereals or mixer
biscuit.
As
a guide, if you are feeding this meaty mix and nothing else, your pet
will require approx 1.5
- 2% of body weight per day – i.e
60 - 80 gms daily for a 4kg cat, 300-400 gms per day for a 20kg
dog.
Minced
meats spoil more readily than whole meat – treat it as you would human
mince for yourselves, and use within 48 hours of defrosting. You should
also follow all the usual hygiene precautions when dealing with raw
meats.
Meatymix
provides NO dental abrasion. You need to give your dog appropriate chews
on top of this diet - or raw meaty bones. If you have problems with the
raw meaty bone concept, I suggest you get comfy with Meatymix, and then
start adding in a chicken thigh/leg/half once or twice a week when you
have seen that your pet has not died from Salmonella/Campylobacter, or
whatever.
